Doug Adams became CEO of SOLX on December 19, 2007 with the acquisition of SOLX from OccuLogix, a company he originally founded in 2000. Mr. Adams has an accomplished history in the ophthalmic industry with more than 25 years experience. Mr. Adams has directed the launch of more than 20 products while holding the position of founder and CEO at several start-up companies, in addition to senior executive positions at a variety of companies including, Summit Technology, Allergan Medical Optics, and Humphrey Instruments. He holds a BBA from the University of Georgia and has completed executive leadership courses from Columbia University, and Wharton School of Business. He has served on industry advisory boards for Boston University and Ocular Surgery News International.
HOWARD KIM, MD
Director of Clinical Affairs and Business Development
Howard Kim joined SOLX in 2010 and serves as Director of Clinical Affairs and Business Development. Howard has over 15 years of clinical and health care industry experience. Since 2001, Howard has worked in the venture capital industry at two leading investment firms – Advent International and Hambrecht & Quist Capital. During that period, Howard supported over 20 life science companies in a variety of roles, including clinical affairs and business development. Prior to joining the venture industry, Howard also spent time at Goldman Sachs and The Advisory Board Company, and conducted scientific research at Harvard Medical School.
PATRICK H. KING
Vice President, Sales & Marketing
Patrick King joined SOLX as Vice President of Sales and Marketing in 2010. Mr. King has over 25 years of increasing sales and marketing leadership experience in the ophthalmic market. Prior to joining SOLX, Mr. King was President of Optonol, Inc. USA. In that position, he expanded the use of the Ex-PRESS mini glaucoma shunt prior to the company’s purchase by Alcon in December 2009. Patrick also served in senior positions at Coopervision, CIBA Vision Surgical and Mentor Corp. He holds a BA from Loras College and has completed executive courses at the University of Chicago and Loyola School of Business.
JUDY LI-WEN LIN
Engineer Consultant
Judy Lin graduated from UC Berkeley with a B. S. major in Mechanical Engineering and minor in Business Administration. Ms. Lin worked on several research projects while in Berkeley, specifically manufacturing and combustion engineering. In addition to technical projects, she was also interested in cross-cultural learning, and spent six months in Japan through a studying-abroad program before graduating from Berkeley. After completing undergraduate education, she went on to Massachusetts Institute of Technology to pursue a M.S. in Mechanical Engineering. At MIT she worked on a biomechanics project at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, where she conducted research to explore the lubrication mechanism of the pleural space through experiments and simulations. Currently consulting as an engineer at SOLX, Inc, Ms. Lin is involved with product development and quality testing.
ABRAHAM MASSOUDA
Director, Operations and Quality
Abe Massouda has more than 25 years of progressively senior level positions in production, operations and executive management with profit and loss responsibility. His experience spans the electromechanical, medical disposables and medical device industries. Mr. Massouda was previously employed by Cynosure where he was the Senior Executive Vice president of Operations, Kontron Instruments where he was the President and Chief Executive Officer, and Datamedix where he was the Director of Production. Mr. Massouda graduated from the University of Roger William in Rhode Island with a degree in Industrial Engineering.
S.K. McGARVEY, BSc, MBA
Regulatory Consultant
S.K McGarvey has an extensive career in the Medical Device Field, both as VP of R&D as well as a consultant to all major and many start-up companies in the Ophthalmic and Cardiovascular specialties for more than 25 years. She has successfully taken numerous files through the IDE/PMA and FDA Panel review process, with no file having ever been rejected. Among first-of-a kind regulatory approvals, Ms. McGarvey directed the project for the first advanced generation Excimer laser approvals, for Autonomous Technologies, a product which was inducted into the NASA Technology Hall of Fame in 2005. McGarvey has been also been active on and provided leadership to many FDA/Industry/Profession collaborative committees for the establishment of standards for various Ophthalmic products.
BETH HAKE McHALLAM, CPA
Director, Finance and Administration
Beth McHallam joined SOLX shortly after the company was founded in 2000. Ms. McHallam has over 20 years experience in accounting, finance, legal documentation and information technology fields. Her experience includes 4 years in public accounting, more than 10 years in various financial management positions in private companies, and over 8 years experience in financial systems integration and support. Ms. McHallam has worked extensively with numerous early stage companies in various technology segments. During her tenure at SOLX, she has completed two Merger Agreements with public companies, and assisted in raising over $25 million in private funding. She holds a B.S. in Accounting from the Moorhead State University, Minnesota and a current CPA license from the state of Vermont.
